Thursday's Recipe

I am a coffee lover.  I love the smell of coffee, the color of the coffee beans and of course the taste of good, strong coffee.  So when I was browsing through one of my magazines, I spotted a recipe I will definitely try in the near future.

Here it is:

Java-Nut Shake

In a blender, add:

~2 cups of ice cubes
~1/2 cup cold double-brewed nut-flavored coffee
~1/2 cup of chocolate milk
~1/3 cup of chocolate syrup
~1-2 TBs. superfine sugar

Mix these until it's nice and smooth.

If you want, you can also garnish it with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, chocolate syrup and a cute coffee bean.  This recipe makes 2 servings.

Enjoy!

Wordless Wednesday

This picture was taken last Wednesday when I took the kiddies to the Bronx Zoo. They have this new exhibit called Discover Madagascar.  It is absolutely amazing.  I have more pics to post on my blog but this picture of the Hissing Cockroaches really disgusted me when I saw it in person.  So that is why it is my wordless pic of the day.  My 3 year old didn't even want to get close to them, even though there was glass protecting us.

The exhibit will only be there until July 27th so hurry if you are in the NYC area.
You won't be sorry!

Aren't they disgusting??
This was in total darkness so I hope
I didn't scare them with the camera flash.

Starbucks is closing?

Well, not all of its stores but they do have plans to close about 600 stores due to the economy.  If you remember this post, then you already know that I've been on a strike.  I haven't visited a Starbucks for over six months and I don't miss a thing.  I'm sorry but their prices are crazy for something I can make at home for the fraction of the cost.  I am on a budget and I can't see myself spending $4 for a latte that I may not enjoy anyway, you know what I mean.  I do feel bad for the workers. They'll be out of a job soon.  Maybe they can get a job at Dunkin Donuts or something.

Anyway, here's the article on the Starbucks closing.

Very disturbing

Click here and view the video on right hand side.  I can't believe no one said or did anything for 45 minutes.  If I was there, I would've immediately said something to a hospital official.

So, what do you think?

Size does matter!

LOL.. I hope you didn't take your mind to the gutter with that one.. Just kidding.  I'm really talking about food here.  Has anyone noticed food is really smaller?  I've been reading about it everywhere on the web.  So when I went to my local Stop and Shop last night,  I noticed that the food items are indeed smaller but the prices are still the same.  I'm wondering, are these manufacturers trying to fool the consumers?  I know things are hard now because of gas prices and everything else but they are making it harder for the working people too.  There are some ways to make your dollar stretch even farther.

*Cut those coupons.  I am the coupon queen in my family.  I cut anything and everything. You never know when those items will be on sale.  If I don't have use for the coupon, I usually leave the coupons by the product so that someone else can save that dollar.  You see, New Yorkers are really nice

*When you have those coupons cut, save them and wait until the product goes on sale.  You'll save even more.  Many times you can get stuff for free.

*If you don't have the patience to cut coupons, then wait until those items are on sale.  My family knows I only buy things when they are on sale.  They say sale is my middle name.

*Everyone should know this one: Don't go food shopping when you are hungry.  This is a must.  Sometimes my husband goes shopping with me and he is always hungry.  I have to tell him to put things back because it is always junk food like chips and cookies.

*If you have a CVS nearby, sign up for their savings card and you can get things like razors and toothbrushes almost free after coupons.

Hope that helps!

Need work in your house?

If so, you may want to do the work yourself instead of going to your neighborhood home improvement store. Or you can make a call to a reputable contractor and make sure that person or company is licensed and insured.  Many people don't know this but it's the law to be licensed and insured if you are a contractor.  You never know what problems can arise while your home is being remodeled or renovated.

My husband is a contractor.  He is both licensed and insured.  He has done plenty of work for people that have hired contractors through home improvement stores to fix what the "contractors" have done previously.  It's so sad that innocent people have to pay double for work in their home.  They think they will get the best job done because it is from a well known company.  Little do they know; most of these contractors don't have the proper tools, knowledge and/or the experience to get the job done properly.

So while searching through YouTube, I was shocked when I came across this particular
video. These things happen more than you think.  It shows that a well known store like Home Depot are hiring people to lie and deceit people to get work.  They even try to persuade the customers to get work done they don't even need.  Some are not even licensed to do any work but yet they get contracts through Home Depot.  I was completely shocked when I saw the video.  Here's another video.  I really can't believe a woman had to go through that.  It really is disturbing and sad.

Do you know of a horror story like in one of the videos or were you a victim at one time or another?  I would love to hear about it.

Changes

That is what I want for my blog.  So for the next few weeks, you are going to see different backgrounds and colors b/c I am searching for a new look.  I'm not quite happy about the new look now so I am going to tweak it up a bit in the next few weeks.

I hope you don't mind the "construction".

I hate rejection!

I can't believe it. My blog was rejected by someone through Entrecard.  They claimed it was because it was not relevant.  WHAT??!! That person's blog used to be on my favorites.  Needless to say, they are no longer on my list.  I really can't believe that!

Has this happened to anyone else?

Finally!

I finally saw Young Frankenstein on Broadway!!!!!

I wanted to write this post on Monday but I didn't have time so here it is.  Here are some pics that were taken before we got to the theater.
~~~
Ok, I still can't believe I finally saw the show on Sunday.  It was the best.  The show was incredible.  My husband and I had such a great time.
Megan Mullally was hilarious as Elizabeth.  Roger Bart was amazing as Frederick Frankenstein and Christopher Fitzgerald was the best as Igor.  The whole cast was great.  I laughed so much, I didn't want the show to be over.  If you loved Young Frankenstein, The Movie, then you will definitely love this show.  Thanks again sis!
I can't forget the Hilton Theater.  The theater was amazing & beautiful.  Since there was A LOT of people there, I couldn't take another picture of the inside besides the skeleton but I did manage to take some pictures from inside the theater itself before the show started.
I hope you enjoyed my pictures.
My next review will be on Beauty and the Beast!
Toddler Talk
I have a 3 year old that speaks pretty well for her age.  You can understand what she says, most of the time.  When she says words that don't sound right, I try to correct her and get kind of upset when she says it the right way.  You see, I love when kids her age say things the "wrong" way.  I think it is so cute.  Even though I do want her to speak proper English, she is my last baby and she'll learn the right way eventually.
Here is what she is saying now:
Baby soup - Bathing suit
Meet-Sa - Pizza
Eet-Meal - Oatmeal
Draff - Giraffe
Lello - Yellow
Berry - Very
I don't want that for my neck. - I don't want that in my mouth. (Veggies or anything that has a creamy sauce like pastas).
Elimy - Emily (her friend)
Aminal - Animal
I won an award!!!
Well, not a real life award but a blog award called the Arte and Pico Award.  Take a look:
Isn't she beautiful?  Mrs. Mecomber from New York Renovator gave me this award.  I am so grateful and happy and at the same time shocked.  I really love all of her her blogs too.  I can't believe she has more then two blogs that she updates regularly.  They're always interesting and funny too.  Here is what she said about my blog:
New York Chica
Another fun blog! She talks about anything and everything from a more “urban” perspective. And what’s neat is, she is from New York, too.
<img src=
Isn't that sweet?  I didn't know about any award in the Blogosphere nor did I know that my blog was going to be honored that way either.  I'm glad there are people that like and appreciate all the non-sense I write..LOL
There are certain rules to winning the award.  Here they are:
The rules for passing this honor on:
1) Pick 5 blogs that you would like to award this honor to.
2) Each award has to have the name of the author and also a link to his or her blog to be visited by everyone.
3) Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link to the blog that has given her or him the award itself.
4) Award-winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link of “Arte y Pico” blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award. http://arteypico.blogspot.com/
Note: The blog is in spanish but the award means "This blog rewards the art and creativity."
Ok, now to think of ONLY five blogs.  I have so many favorites, choosing only five is going to be really hard.
Here they are:
1. Saph at http://windersnest.blogspot.com/ - She has alot of useful information and her blog is fun too.
2. Jai at http://www.mamistimeout.com/ - She is a Latina like me and her blog makes me laugh.  Always interesting.
3. Lady Java at http://ladyjava.javaura.com/ - I love her blog design because it has a coffee theme and I love coffee.  Her blog is fun too.
4. Chilly at http://onthebricks.blogspot.com/ - He has a way with words that makes me laugh. His blog is never boring.  Always interesting and fun.
5. Cece at http://lovinlaughinlivin2.wordpress.com/ - She is one funny gal.  She has a "tell it like it is" attitude and she really shows it on her blog and I love it.  I  always look forward to reading her blog.
That is my list.  If it were up to me, I would've had about 50 blogs on the list but the rules are to pick only five.  I hope they are happy.
Rolling down memory lane
I remember when I was 19 years old, my dad took my sister and I to Orlando, Florida for our summer vacation.  It was one of my most memorable experiences in my life.  It was also my very first time in Florida.  I loved everything about it.  We were there for only a week but we did so much.  Since there are so many things to do in Orlando, you will never be bored.  You can visit one of their amusement parks, go to one or a few of their many beaches and eat at so many different types of restaurants too.  My favorite place was Disney World and Universal Studios.  I had the best time there.  I am an amusement park kind of person so basically I love any park that includes roller coasters.
If you're interested in going on a vacation this summer, you've got to check out Trusted Tours and look at their online travel guides to decide where you would like to go.  They have tons of information on dozens of places.  Trusted Tours and Attractions offers discounted tickets to the best sightseeing tours in 23 cities across America.  They are also having a contest where you can win a handheld GPS if you sign up for their newsletter.  I'm already signed up so if I win, I'll let you know.  You must hurry though, this offer ends June 30th so you only have a few days left.
So, just like my title on my blog, I am truly a New York girl.  I lived in New York all my life but it's sad I never took advantage of some of the most beautiful places New York State has to offer, especially in the Big Apple (NYC).  When I used to live in the Bronx, it took me about a 1/2 to get to the city from home.  It was great.  One place I would love to visit is the
Metropolitan museum of art. One of the reasons being is that I love Art and History.  When I was in NYC a few days ago to see Young Frankenstein (look out for that post), I really forgot how much I missed being there.  There are so many museums to visit.  You would need at least two weeks in the city to see each and every one of them.
Yard sale
I really need to have a yard sale.  We have accumulated so much stuff in the past 7 years, I feel like we are growing out of this house.  We pretty much have an average size house.  Not too big and not too small.  It is perfect for a family of five but with all this stuff, I feel like we need to buy a bigger house.  In reality, we don't have to.  We just need to get rid of everything we don't use anymore.  The only problem we have, is that we NEVER had a yard sale.  I don't know what to do, how to do it or how to price things.  I've been searching through other blogs and I'm getting tips here and there but I am still confused.
If anyone in the Blogosphere can give me any helpful tips, I would greatly appreciate it.
Summer Vacation is here!
The kids are off from school and I know I will run out of things to keep them busy.  Unfortunately, this summer, we are unable to take a vacation because of all the prices going up.  We will however, go to P.A. to visit some family for the weekend in August.  So technically, that will be our little "vacation".  One thing I would love to do is to check out some RVs For Sale and maybe we can think about traveling that way instead of going to a hotel. I have always wanted to travel in a RV.   Just to think; spending time with the family, talking, eating and just having a good time in a moving hotel room.  I don't know about you but I think that is so cool.  If only I can win the lottery.  I will definitely buy an RV, and then have the engine converted so that it can run on oil instead of gas.  Now that would be both economical and environmentally safe.
As I was browsing through the web, I found a great site that sells new and used Rv's and motor homes.  It's called rvs.com
Right now they are having a clearance sale going on and I am wishing I had the money to purchase one today.  If I did, I would buy this one.  It's not too big and it seems very roomy inside.  I think it would be perfect for a family of five.
So if you're looking into buying a brand new RV/motorhome or a used RV to travel, click on the site and check them out.
Funny Story
Should I feel disgusted or flattered?
My son, who is 11-1/2 years old has this small conversation with me:
Son- "Mom, please don't pick me up from school anymore".
Mom- "Why, is there anything wrong?" "Was some kid teasing you?"
Son- "No, not really but one of my friends said you were hot and that is just plain nasty because you are; you know, motherly.  Yuk!"
Mom- "Oh my god, really? Who was it?  Was it those two kids that were sitting in the office?"
Son- "Yup.  I told them they were gross".
Mom- Laughing out loud
Son- "Mom, that isn't funny".
Mom- "It is to me."
Does that mean I'm a M.I.L.F.?  I'm too much of a mother to actually feel that way.  These kids nowadays are just crazy!
So later that night, I asked hubby if our son told him about what happened at his school.  He said yea, he told me.  He then said that he didn't care if kids say those kind of things, just as long as they are not in high school.  LMAO!!! He is too much!
In need of a new watch?
If you are, then I found a great site.  It's called LA Police Gear.  They sell tons of camping stuff, military gear and they even sell Luminox watches.  They have the best prices and they sell all types of watches.  From dressy watches to sporty watches and even watches that are water resistance.
You do need to know something very important about Luminox watches.  You need to make sure you buy them from an authorized dealer just in case your watch needs repairs or a replacement.  If you don't buy from an authorized dealer like LA Police Gear, then you won't be entitled to a warranty and you would have to pay for the damages yourself.  Most of the time when I buy something, I make sure I buy it from a place that has a very good reputation.
So always remember that when you shop!
